From the manufacturer's website: This Amplified Dynamic Microphone is a noise canceling type. It will not operate in circuits that do not supply a DC bias voltage. It also features a screwdriver adjustable gain control to accommodate the range of sensitivities found in many radios. If severe distortion of garble is caused by over modulation, the gain setting may be reduced by means of adjustment. If modulation audio levels are low or weak, the gain should be increased.
