The Soft Top is made of a tough, vinyl-coated cotton/poly blend and features two quick-release header latches to raise and lower with minimal effort. This is the new and improved Sunrider soft top which makes it even easier to remove the top for that open-air experience on- or off-road. We had previously reported the RS5 would use a twin-turbo iteration of this engine, but a senior source has told us it will not feature forced induction. We’re told it’s the same high-revving engine that powered the outgoing RS4, albeit spruced up with the latest Ingolstadt know-how.

He was obviously very confident his new baby was up to the task but, just like McLaren’s current Formula One car, the P1 seems to be just a bit off the pace. Last month we reported that it seemed the best the McLaren P1 could do at the Nurburgring was a 7:04s – a time McLaren didn’t make official – so we knew McLaren would be back with their laptops and engineers as soon as they’d figured a way to trim those last few seconds.

Sadly, we won't get the steroidal hot hatch in the UK as it's not being built in right-hand drive.Why so little innovation? There's a natural lull in the model cycle after a ballistic 2007, and we'll have to wait until later in the year to see another new model, rumoured to be a concept car for a future model line.
