BMW 4 Series: The new 3 Series Coupe arrives
Thu, 06 Dec 2012The BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe – a two door version of the new 3 Series – has been revealed and will debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. It may be a concept as far as the real extremes are concerned – the butch bumpers, big air intakes and extreme wheels – but in every other way the 4 Series Concept is the production 4 Series we’ll get later in 2014. And it looks good.
General Motors Europe opens new Design Center
Fri, 12 May 2006Being a car designer is often percieved as a glamourous occupation, but few people realise that this typically means working in some of the least inspiring places. Wolfsburg, Detroit and Birmingham are just a few of the locations that are home to some of the largest populations of car designers around the world. GM Europe's location in Russelsheim, Germany is also one of the less glamourous locations but the new design center building opened this week aims to redress the otherwise rather industrial feel of the place where tomorrow's Opels and Saabs are created.
Concept Car of the Week: Renault Altica (2006)
Fri, 18 Jul 2014Back in 2006 Renault was still well into its design-leadership stride, if perhaps not for much longer. The Altica concept, shown at that year's Geneva motor show, showcased all the French brand had to offer at that time – a brilliantly brave, architectural interior, a style that could only be associated with its country of origin and an interior that thoroughly questioned and readdressed layout, control and format. It also served to preview the renaissance of the Shooting Brake that the industry is still experiencing.
