This wonderfully interesting Diesel School Teaching Aid was interactive so students
could see and understand by way of working meters, button & knob controls, board
illustrations and instructor explanations how diesels work and respond to a wide
array of potentially changing conditions.  When it was saved, its wiring loom was cut.
But if someone REALLY wanted to, they could chase down its well-shown functions
to reconnect those cut wiring loom ends to another working  diesel test rig.  But as
it now stands, it is still a useful teaching and instruction wall display for those who
care about diesels and those who want to help others understand how diesels work.
If you use eBay's photo enlargement tool you can see better detail of this amazingly
detailed interactive display board.

This was displayed in my shop for years during which time it generated lots of
interest, admiring looks and questions. For those who love diesels and who own
shops, this could be displayed and enjoyed for years to the delight of "those with
eyes to see and minds which understand."  Unfortunately, that description leaves
out a high percentage of our population.  The more young people we can teach how
things work that affect our lives, as real diesels do by powering ships, locomotives,
trucks and other machines on which our society depends, the better our future
will be.

It is 42-7/8 inches wide and  26-3/4 inches tall.  The original enclosure was not
saved, but building a frame for it should be easy.  Or if you don't want to do that,
professional frame shops do that kind of work in all larger communities.  Buttons,
knobs and meters project from the board's front and rear causing overall depth
to be about 4 inches.  The board on which the art work was applied is aluminum.
Weight without parcel and packing materials is 15 pounds.  Due to this size and
weight, shipper's fee will be substantial.  But if the buyer plans for them or one
of their friends to travel up I-29 through Iowa into South Dakota within the next
6 months, I am willing to store it until then and deliver it to them at the truck
stop located at the second exit encountered when entering South Dakota from
the south.  Scheduling that connection using the traveler's cell phone would be
easy and eliminate shipper's fees from this exchange.  If a buyer selects that option,
we will deduct the shipper's fee.  But if they fail to have it collected by the end of
6 months, they must then either pay the then current shipper's fee, or forfeit their
right to this purchase without refund.  So I'm willing to work with the buyer to
minimize their shipping cost, but I'm not willing to be abused by non-performance.

The next owner can display and enjoy this rare find for decades yet it will
retain its value.  Everyone who likes diesels and sees this finds it interesting.
I've seen people study it for half an hour.  You are VERY unlikely to see
another like it. It definitely makes a "class act" wall display.

If you have not been able to find a gift for a diesel-loving relative or
friend because they seem to already own almost every shop tool that
interests them, this could be the gift they remember best and show to
friends for decades to come.  Any competent frame shop can make a
suitable wall-mount to give it that "framed art" look. This should go to
someone else who is likely to continue enjoying it for years to come.

Honda back in F1 as engine supplier to McLaren from 2015

Thu, 16 May 2013

We reported that Honda were looking likely to be heading back in to F1 as engine supplier to McLaren nearly two years ago, and this morning Honda has confirmed they have formed a joint project with McLaren to supply engines and energy recovery systems to McLaren from 2015 in a joint project with the McLaren team becoming McLaren Honda. The new F1 partnership revives a very successful period for McLaren when it last used Honda engines and Prost and Senna dominated F1 with Honda powered McLarens, and fits in nicely with Honda’s return to making supercars with the new Honda NSX. Formula One engines will drop to a 1.6 litre V6 in 2015 – with a turbo – and it will be very easy for parallels to be drawn with the V6 hybrid plant Honda are using on the new NSX, which is going to do its credibility no harm whatsoever.

Skoda Fabia and Roomster: the 2010 facelifts

Thu, 25 Feb 2010

By Tim Pollard First Official Pictures 25 February 2010 23:05 Skoda's big news at the 2010 Geneva motor show is a brace of facelifts: the Fabia and Roomster duo both receive a cosmetic makeover, new engines and a smattering of fresh tech to keep mpg up and emissions down.As these first pictures confirm, this is a modest facelift. The massaged radiator grille and reprofiled, wider headlamps are the most obvious changes, but there's also a looping detail line on the bonnet that swoops down to encircle the badge, reminding us of the hood on the latest BMW 5-series.The changes are also rolled out to the muddy-puddles Scout models. And what's all this about a new Fabia vRS hot hatch?Ah yes.
