Remote start your engine and set the alarm with your car's remote

DEI/VIPER SmartStart DSS5X10 GPS remote start and security system lets you start your vehicle remotely by pressing the lock button on the key three times. The DSS5X10 incorporates a digital interface that communicates directly with your vehicle's computer to bypass the normal security safeguards, so you can take control from a distance. You can pre-warm your car in the winter and pre-cool it in summer so it'll be just right when you get in. Once you install this system, you'll be able to use your car's remote to start your car and arm/disarm the security system from the usual distance, or use your smartphone to control those functions from hundreds of miles away.

Important Note: Because of safety concerns, we strongly recommend professional installation for remote start systems in vehicles with manual transmissions.

Security system

Security features include Starter Kill to prevent hot-wiring, a loud 6-tone siren that'll catch everyone's attention, a dual-shock sensor that warns first and then sets off the alarm, and a LED indicator that tells strangers there's a security system aboard. The valet switch lets someone park your car without setting off your system.

Like a lot of security systems, the DEI/VIPER SmartStart also includes a panic button, so you can set off an alarm in case of an emergency. Two auxiliary channels allow you to turn on the dome light, open the windows, or control other additional actions.

Also operates by smartphone or watch and the SmartStart App

The DSS5X10's SmartStart GPS Module lets you use your smartphone or similar device to locate, secure, start your vehicle, and much more. Once you're connected to the Cloud via the DEI/Viper SmartStart App, you'll be able to lock and unlock your doors, pop the trunk, or start the car. If your device has Internet service, you can communicate with your car and can control many of its functions remotely, even if you're hundreds of miles away

The DSS5X10 uses Verizon CDMA/3G technology to communicate with the Cloud, giving you wide national coverage, fast response times, and low power consumption anywhere in the United States (no service in Canada).

The Dei/Viper SmartStart GPS Premium service plan

First, you'll need to purchase a 1- or 3-year subscription to Dei/Viper's SmartStart GPS Premium service plan in order to take advantage of the features SmartStart has to offer. (Dei/Viper gives you the first 60 days for free to get you started.) The plan's most valuable and reassuring feature is membership in the Dei/Viper Motor Club, which entitles you to free roadside assistance, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year — a great feature if you need towing, a new battery, or a tire.

GPS features

The SmartStart GPS app can show you your car's location, display your vehicle's speed, and alert you if that speed gets too high. With one click, Social Media Check-in lets you share your parking location with your Facebook friends. You can set up a SmartFence around your car that alerts you if the car leaves that area, and create a HotSpot that alerts you if the car enters a forbidden zone. SmartSchedule, another feature in the GPS Premium service, sends you behavior-based reminders when it's time to start your car, taking into account your commute time and outside temperature.

More interactive features

The Dei/Viper SmartStart app displays a background image that shows you what the weather's like at your location. For your peace of mind, the Vehicle Status screen shows you whether your car's locked, armed, running, or has a door open. If anything disturbs your car's security system, SmartStart will send an alert to your phone and a text message with the details of the occurrence.

Every time you use your phone to lock your car, the SmartPark feature remembers where you parked. The Parking Meter keeps track of the time remaining on your meter, alerting you when it's time to feed it more coins. To return, you press "Find My Car" and SmartPark shows you a map to your car accompanied by any helpful notes or photos you stored there.

"Siri, open SmartStart"

That's right. If you have Siri you can gain access to SmartStart verbally from wherever you are, as long as you have phone service. SmartStart works with all iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices, select Android devices, as well as Apple and Android smartwatches. The Home Control feature even allows you to access and control your Alarm.com-powered home security system from your smartphone, so you'll know your home is safe and sound while you're away.

Motorists Worry About Safety On The School Run

Fri, 29 Aug 2014

AS THE start of new school term approaches, the latest research from BCA, a leading vehicle remarketing company, reveals the pressures faced by parents - and other motorists - on school run routes. Both parents and non-parents were surveyed and with nearly half (45%) of non-parents saying they drive by schools or use the same route as parents dropping off their children, it's clear that school runs create some significant pinch-points. Key findings: 46% of all motorists believe parents drive their children to school because it takes too long to walk 30% of non-parents believe children demand to be driven to school, compared to just 17% of parents Over a third (38%) of all motorists think unreliable public transport prompts parents to drive children to school More than half (57%) of motorists see illegal parking outside of school gates 44% of have seen parents and children not looking at oncoming traffic when opening car doors Both parents and non-parents were most in favour of schools creating drop-off areas to tackle congestion and parking issues during the school run at 52% and 57% respectively 29% of parents think police officers should be on patrol to tackle parking issues during the school run Parents in Northern Ireland are most likely to drive their children to school, topping the list at 51%, followed by families in the North East and West Midlands at 39%.

Diesel fumes linked to illnesses

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

DIESEL exhaust fumes have been linked to a range of illnesses and long term health conditions from heart disease to diabetes. The fumes are a complex mixture of gases and fine particles containing contaminants including microscopic particles less than one-fifth the thickness of a human hair and small enough to penetrate deep into the lungs and bloodstream. Over a long period of the time, exposure to the fumes can raise the risk of potentially deadly blood clots and increase the risk of stroke by narrowing the arteries that carry blood to the brain.
