Forget today's budget special – the new Lancer is Mitsubishi's pitch to move the Lancer upmarket, away from cheap 'n' cheereful Korean rivals and towards the mainstream heartland occupied by Ford and Vauxhall. Sergio Scaglietti: 1920-2011

Sergio Scaglietti, famous for creating some of the most beautiful and valuable cars in the world, passed away earlier this week at the age of 91, in his home town of Modena, Italy. The name Scaglietti is synonymous with Ferrari, the moniker still being carried on the 612 flagship model, and it is a pairing that runs deeper than crossbranding and business.

There have been a number of tuned and pimped versions from them in the last few years (you wonder when they’re going to run out of donor cars – there were only 1270 ever made), but this one looks particularly good. Based on a standard donor Porsche Carrera GT, the Gemballa Mirage GT Carbon Edition gets a power increase of around 50bhp, taking it to 670bhp (not as mad as some of the Gemballa Carrera GTs have been) and 470lb/ft of torque.
