The Lift Pump
For sale is one brand new OEM lift pump manufactured by Carter here in the USA for the 1998 1/2 - 2002 Dodge Cummins Diesel trucks with the 24 valve ISB engine. Complete pump kit new in box includes a new lift pump, wiring harness, sealing washers, and nuts. This Carter pump is the OEM unit as Carter actually builds the pump for Mopar and Cummins. One year manufacture warranty on unit. This Carter pump is the original unit that came on your vehicle when new. It is the OEM pump although Dodge no longer sells this unit. If you go to a Dodge dealer they will want you to install an in the tank unit at a much higher cost. Save money and labor by replacing the original unit with this OEM part. Installation is pretty straight forward. If you change your own oil and fuel filters then this project is certainly within your ability.
It is recommended that you replace your transfer/lift pump if it’s weak or non-functioning as it puts extra stress on the injection pump. This new Carter unit has the improved internal bypass circuit that allows it to flow fuel even if it is not functioning thus putting much less stress on the injections pump. Additionally, it’s also recommended that you replace your transfer pump in tandem with an injection pump replacement. A weak old style transfer pump could be the cause for a failed injection pump. Rule of thumb - if you find yourself having to purchase an injection pump spend the extra and get a new transfer pump at the same time.
