Jaguar XF – the 2010 police version for Plod
Wed, 28 Apr 2010This is the first police-spec Jaguar XF – bound to an orderly life of patrolling the motorways around the Midlands area encircling Jaguar's HQ. The local constabulary has bought seven 271bhp 3.0-litre Diesel S models in police trim. What's changed to make the XF a police car?Not much out of the ordinary. It's much easier to spot than a demarked police car, with its roof bar, LED flashers in the grille and refletive decals galore. It's ironic that Jags used to be the getaway vehicle of choice in the 50s, 60s and 70s in films of a certain bent; now Jaguar has gone good and supplying Plod himself.
The Porsche P1 is lighter, greener and more exclusive than McLaren's new hypercar
Mon, 27 Jan 2014Long before the legendary Porsche 911 -- before, even, the Porsche 356 -- Ferdinand Porsche was tinkering with alternative powertrains and designing road-worthy vehicles. Though it wasn't the first vehicle to bear his name, the “Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model” was the earliest result of his efforts. Perhaps getting the jump on the modern alpha-numeric craze/plague, it was shortened to a simple “P1.” The P1 (we'll refer to it as the Porsche P1 from here on out to avoid confusion) made its first appearance in Vienna on June 26, 1898, and it didn't last long in the public eye: Before Porsche decided to pull it out and put it on display, it had reportedly been sitting in a warehouse, untouched, since 1902.
Toyota FT-86 II concept
Mon, 14 Mar 2011Toyota's FT-86 concept has had much fascination and speculation attached to it since its original show debut at the 2009 Tokyo motor show. Geneva saw the much anticipated RWD coupe receive a mild make over and feature several updates for 2011. The FT-86 II has been developed in conjunction with Subaru, who also previewed their vision of the same brief...albeit somewhat further from production specification than the Toyota.
