The New Lotus Esprit We’ve been banging on that the new Lotus Esprit would turn up at the Paris Motor Show forever. It seemed the most logical step, but then Lotus went and shoved a spanner in the works a couple of weeks back by revealing the new Lotus Elite. So we thought that would be the powder spent for Paris.

The European Car of the Year 2012 will be revealed at next month's Geneva motor show, drawn from a shortlist of seven cars. In the first stage of voting judges selected their seven favorite cars from a list of 35 candidates that were put on sale in Europe in 2011, with January seeing the declaration of the seven finalists. The second stage of voting will find the European Car of the Year 2012, with the winning car announced on 5 March at the Geneva motor show.

Despite being labeled as the ‘Demio’ in the official Japanese pics, Mazda’s small Fiesta rival will continue to be known as the Mazda 2 in Europe - but unlike the last generation it will only be available as a five-door hatchback. Made in Hofu in Japan, the Mazda 2 adopts the firm’s Kodo design language that was first seen on the Mazda 6.
