> Lots of Pictures (300+)

I designed this dolly to carry my Sunfish Sailboat and my Minifish Sailboat from the boat storage area to beach launch area, about 200 yards away. This requires traveling through a paved parking lot, over a few small curbs, down a ramp and across 30-50 feet of soft sand (depending on the tide). My son can easily do this by himself with one hand using this dolly. My Sunfish is 14 feet long and 4.1 feet wide at the beam. It weighs about 140 pounds. My Minifish is 11 feet 9 inches and 3 feet 10 inches wide at the beam. It weighs about 80 pounds. The dolly described in these plans will carry any similarly sized boat.

Here are my original design objectives (all were achieved with the following design):

BOAT DOLLY DESIGN OBJECTIVES:

Ø Cost for parts less than $150 (If you already have some parts/supplies it can be done for much less, I did it for ~$60)

Ø All Parts available at Home Depot (or any good neighborhood hardware store)

Ø Easy to build (less than 4 hours)

Ø Carry a 5-15 ft Long sailboat from trailer/storage to launch point

Ø Carry a boat with a beam > 40” from trailer/storage to launch point

Ø Carry a boat with a weight up to 250 pounds from trailer/storage to launch point

Ø Traverse semi-rough terrain (small curbs, stones, pot holes, grass, and sand).

Ø Easily fits in my trunk and fairly light weight (actual dimensions are 38" x 36" x 17" and weighs ~ 22 pounds -basic design, 30.6 pounds -design w/handle))

Ø Save My Back - Eliminate lifting the boat while pulling (as seen with dolly’s attached to the back of the boat)

Ø Save My Boat - Avoid damage to the dagger board slot (as seen with dolly’s that plug into the dagger board slot)

This design is based on others I have found. This is just my customized version. I decided to create a detailed construction plan so others can learn from my experience and create their own dolly and maybe even improve on what I did (or at least customize it to their needs). Note that this dolly design is too wide for most Kayaks and canoes, but the design could be adjusted by using a shorter axle to allow it to accommodate these types of boats.

Toyota GT86 TRD Griffon makes its debut at Goodwood (video)

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The Toyota GT86 TRD Griffon 9Pictured) made its debut at Goodwood this weekend We’re still waiting for Toyota to make a more powerful version of the GT86 (and Subaru the BRZ), but we are starting to get more focused versions. We’ve already seen the GT86 TRD – developed by Toyota Racing development – as a road car limited edition, and last month we learnt that Toyota were going to debut a track version – the GT86 TRD Griffon – and that it would arrive at Goodwood. Now the Griffon has arrived looking immensely purposeful with its wings and diffuser and carbon fibre for the roof, doors, bonnet and boot and some severe fettling of the oily stuff with upgraded brakes, new alloys, mechanical limited slip diff and stiffer suspension.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage arrives!

Wed, 04 Feb 2009

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage promised so much when it was launched. It looked great, it sounded even better, and Aston Martin promised us it would be cheap (by Aston standards) and show the 911 how it was done. Well… It didn’t quite make it.

New Mercedes A Class: 90,000 orders and counting

Thu, 15 Nov 2012

Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche has revealed that Mercedes already has 90,000 orders for the new A-Class just months after its reveal. It’s a credible, good looking and clever car that’s a serious offering in the premium compact market and, if the order book for 70,000 A-Class Mercedes already had by the end of October is anything to go by, it’s going to be a roaring success. That sales figure has now jumped to 90,000 A-Class – according to Mercedes boss, Dieter Zetsche – and stands at double the order book Volkswagen has for the new MK 7 Golf.
