And now, after quite a wait, we get its replacement – the new Hyundai Veloster. The Veloster was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show at the start of 2011, and Hyundai say it will be in UK showrooms in February 2012.

Starting point is the Golf S 3-door with the 1.2 litre TSI engine the 84bhp at just £16,330 (less than the same MK 6 model), with a choice of both 3 and five door models across the range and three trim levels – S, SE and GT (the MK 7 Golf GTI won’t arrive until next year).

You can do your own jokes, but rest assured it won’t be called that once it reaches the UK sometime in 2015. It’s based on the same platform as the all-new Honda Fit, the car we know as the Jazz, and will go on sale in Japan this December.
