Mercedes-Benz backs Smart with ads, deals

Smart USA will launch a TV, print and digital marketing campaign by year end to jump-start the struggling microcar brand that Mercedes-Benz USA took over on July 1. "People are not avoiding the brand or the product, but there is a great majority of people who are not aware of the brand," said Tracey Matura, the new general manager of Smart USA. Mercedes is also offering lease and finance deals for the Smart brand through its Mercedes-Benz Financial Services captive finance arm.

While electric cars may not have taken off as quickly as the likes of Renault and Nissan had hoped, the latest figures from the government’s £5,000 electric car grant scheme show that sales have leapt 25% in the last quarter. A total of 1,149 electric cars were registered in Q3, not only a 25% improvement over Q2, but the most successful quarter since the government scheme began back in January 2011, indicating that consumers are starting to understand the technology and its limitations rather better. An intriguing teaser sketch for Eterniti Motors, a new London-based luxury car brand, has been revealed this morning. The company's website features a teaser video and an early sketch of its first vehicle, the Hemera. It will be further developed, with more evolved versions of the sketch released every week leading up to its Frankfurt debut. Judging from the sketch, the full production-ready vehicle set to make its debut in Frankfurt will be a high-level SUV crossover.
