Fast & Furious star Paul Walker dies in car crash

AP The US actor Paul Walker has died in a car crash in Valencia, California. The 40-year-old star of the Fast & Furious movie franchise was a passenger in a red Porsche Carrera GT sports car that hit a lamp post and burst into flames. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's department attended the incident north of LA but Paul Walker and the driver of the Porsche were pronounced dead at the scene.

60mph M1 motorway speed limit proposed

The government has announced a proposal to lower the motorway speed limit from 70mph to 60mph over a 32-mile stretch of the M1. The plan, which has just been put out to consultation, would lower the speed limit to 60mph between junction 28, near Matlock in Derbyshire, to junction 35a, north of Rotherham – in a bid to improve air quality by reducing vehicle emissions. This is the first BMW to compete in the premium lower medium European car class defined by cars such as the Audi A3 and Alfa Romeo 147, although spiritually it follows the significantly smaller BMW 2002 Touring produced from 1968 to 1976.
