Audi A3 Concept (2011): first pictures

Mon, 21 Feb 2011

Audi has released first sketches of the Audi A3 concept, ahead of its debut at the 2011 Geneva motor show. Audi is previewing the upcoming A3 with this saloon concept. It's powered by the fan-favourite five-cylinder turbocharged engine in 408bhp specification. Quattro four-wheel-drive and a seven-speed S-tronic double-clutch transmission complete the powertrain.  Sizewise, the new A3 saloon is 4440mm long, 1840mm wide and 1390mm high.  That's longer than the current A3 Sportback (4.3m) but shorter than the current VW Jetta saloon (4.64m). The new concept is slightly wider and lower than the current A3.

Toyota Yaris Hybrid joins the Europocar fleet

Wed, 08 Aug 2012

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid – Europe’s answer to the Prius C – joins Europcar Car Hire as the perfect choice for visiting London. Perhaps Europcar should have got the Toyota Yaris Hybrid on to their fleet a little earlier considering the number of visitors in London at the moment? But in future, visitors to London wanting a hire car will be able to opt for the Yaris Hybrid and save themselves London Congestion Charging.

Formula 1 2012: The Cars [w/video]

Tue, 07 Feb 2012

Nine of the 12 Formula 1 teams have released images and details of their cars for the 2012 World Championship as the first day of pre-season testing draws to a close at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Motor sport may fall slightly outside of Car Design News' usual remit, but the big story this year is the new 'stepped nose', which all teams bar McLaren have introduced to comply with new safety regulations, much to the chagrin of aestheticists. And with designers such as Daniel Simon (he produced the livery for HRT last season) and Peter Stevens (most notable for the Brabham cars of the 1980s) involved with the sport over the years, it's always interesting to check out the season's new machines.
