RCA 'Future Car' design competition winner announced

Michal Vlcek, a first-year student in the Vehicle Design department at London's Royal College of Arts, has been announced by the organizers of the London Motorexpo as the winner of the competition to design an innovative electric-powered car. The competition, which was open exclusively to RCA students, asked for designs for the four person electric vehicle of 2032, using "the packaging advantages of an electric motor to move way from the formulaic styling of many modern-day passenger cars". Vlcek's high-quality artwork and lateral thinking proved to be instrumental in his success.

While the Mini Countryman might be destined for suburban mumsville, BMW has confirmed the new model will also terrorise the countryside in the form of the WRC Mini from 2011, with IRC champ Kris Meeke at the wheel. Officially launched at the 2010 Paris motor show in concept guise, the WRC Mini will be engineered and run by motorsport doyen Dave Richards and his Prodrive outfit, although customer packages will be available too, allowing independents to compete in the car. Mercedes GLC Coupe SUV /Crossover planned Four-door coupe versions of saloon cars have become a strong seller in the last few years, and now swoopy coupe SUVs are following the same path after the success of the BMW X6. BMW are building an X3 Coupe in the BMW X4, Mercedes are planning a Coupe version of the ML – the Mercedes MLC – and now they’re heading in to a fight with the BMW X4 by planning a coupe version of the next GLK – the Mercedes GLC. Car & Driver are reporting Mercedes’ plans to build a coupe version of the next GLK – which will already be a lot less boxy than the current GLK – and expected to hit Mercedes showrooms by 2016.
