Description:

Most vehicles have a temperature gauge, but it lacks the ability to provide an audible warning when problem exists. This system will show the real-time engine temperature on a digital display. If the engine overheats, the Engine Guardian will start beeping intermittently to warn the driver. When the engine temperature continuously climbing, it will beep continuously. The main purpose of this device is to protect the car engine from overheating.

Typically, the engine temperature will increase beyond normal operating temperatures before serious damage starts setting in. As the Engine Guardian will detect abnormally high engine temperatures, and provide an audio as well as visual guide to the operating temperatures of the engine, the driver will be able to judge and work to reduce the operating temperature (slow down, or stop the car for a while). This will reduce the repair cost and reduce the likelihood of needing and engine replacement. Additionally, the driver and passengers will not be stranded due to an overheated engine.

Feature:
- Alert driver when engine temperature is in the critical range.
- Optional function to override factory cooling fan system.
- Digital display of temperature
selectable in Celsius or Fahrenheit.
- Simple wiring - Supplied external sensor.
- Cost efficient with sharing display unit with parking sensor system (Optional)
- Rotatable display for easy mounting at any direction and any position.
- Smaller control unit for easy installation.
- Build-in speaker as backup output to alert using audible beeps.

Benefits:
-Prevent expensive engine repair.
-Real time monitoring of engine temperature
-Reduce likelihood of engine overheating and stranding the driver
-Can help to prevent overheating due to:
   - coolant loss
   - hose leaks
   - malfunctioning thermostat
   - blockage in the radiator or hose

Mon, 01 Jun 2009

Volvo are working on a plug in Hybrid for 2012 offerng 50g/km Co2 emissions Laudable though this intent is, it’s a little like the Vauxhall / Opel Ampera – it relies on technology that doesn’t yet exist to deliver what it promises. But to get things moving, Volvo are going to be running a number of Volvo V70 diesel-electric Hybrids round Europe this year, to guage customer feedback and try to establish exactly what the consumer wants. They also want to establish exactly what the consumer can live with in terms of ‘Re-fuelling’.

Whos Where: Pierre Castinel is Head of Design at Tata

Wed, 02 Apr 2008

Indian automaker Tata has been front page news often in recent times, first because of the impressive one-lakh Nano, which changes the automotive industry playing field, and most recently because of its acquisition of Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford's Premiere Automotive Group for the tidy sum of $2.3 billion - less than half what Ford paid for both companies in 1989.  At the helm of Tata's design efforts is Pierre Castinel, Head of Design. Though only officially announced in March this year, Castinel has been active at Tata since he left Renault in summer 2007, a company he worked at for 20 years. Castinel started as a modeler for Peugeot and worked there for three years.
