RCA students redesign classic cars for Salon Privé

Eleven postgraduates from the Royal College of Art's Vehicle Design program have redesigned and modernized past Concours-winning cars for the ‘Concours of the Future' design exhibition at this year's Salon Privé in London. Concours of the Future, a first for the Salon Privé, will be showcased on 4 July before being judged the next day by a panel chaired by automotive designer and RCA visiting professor Peter Stevens. The judging panel is made up of Dale Harrow, head of the RCA Vehicle Design program and some of the biggest names in car design: Giles Taylor, director of design at Rolls-Royce; Peter Schreyer, chief design officer at Hyundai and Kia and Peter Horbury, vice president – design at Geely.

Ferrari has continued its teasing build up towards the reveal of its hybrid flagship supercar by showing off the car's advanced carbon tub chassis. The chassis, which employs four different types of carbonfibre, will be the central component of the V12 model, which will employ an F1-style KERS system and over 800bhp with which to challenge the McLaren P1. Which is what this car essentially is, as the demand for 100 Aeromax hardtops was just so great that Morgan decided to build another similar model. The Supersports uses the same 4.8-litre V8 as the Aeromax, comes with a wood and leather-covered interior and features a bonded aluminium chassis that is cloaked by superformed aluminium panels.
