Jaguar C-X16 Revealed: It may be the XE, but it’s no E-Type Jag
Wed, 07 Sep 2011Jaguar C-X16 - innovative under the skin We’ve known the new small sports car from Jaguar – which may or may not become the Jaguar XE – was heading for Frankfurt for some time. Especially after we had teases of the Concept version – the Jaguar C-X16 – a few weeks ago. So it was no surprise when we had a heap of new photos and a video of the C-X16 drop in to our inbox at midnight.
Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid at the Nurburgring – Video
Wed, 28 Apr 2010The Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid Nurburgring video below In February we reported that Porsche has developed the unthinkable – a hybrid 911. But this wasn’t a hybrid 911 with a bank of batteries and a fluffy-bunny conscience, but a rampant track 911 with a great big electro-magnetic flywheel and a KERS-like thump of an extra 160bhp – the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid. The 911 GT3 R uses technology developed by Williams F1 and comprises of a pair of generators in the front wheels that shove energy to a composite flywheel (conveniently located next to the driver – not sure how well that would go down on a road0going version) which is the stored and can be thrown at the back wheels whenever the driver wants, in a way very similar to KERS.
Mugen Honda CR-Z Hybrid Video ahead of Goodwood
Mon, 13 Jun 2011Mugen Honda CR-Z Hybrid playing on video We reported back in April that Honda had turned to Mugen to see if they could inject anything in to the CR-Z Hybrid that might make it even remotely appealing to a driver. The plan was to take the resulting Mugen Honda CR-Z to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, to see if the knowledgeable petrolheads that gravitate to the Goodwood Estate like moths to a Summer flame could find something to love in the Honda CR-Z, once it had had some Mugen fairy dust springled on it. We were a bit reluctant to expect anything much of the CR-Z even after Mugen had played, but we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the CR-Z would get a wider track, new suspension and brakes and a drop in weight thanks to some carbon fibre in the mix – most notably the carbon fibre bonnet.
