Tesla uses data to refute New York Times report
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk says data don't lie. He's using information from a Model S loaned to New York Times writer John M. Broder to dispute a report the electric sedan didn't deliver enough driving range to take advantage of Tesla's Supercharger stations in the Northeast.
Mercedes-Benz OKs the CLS wagon
Wed, 06 Jan 2010Mercedes-Benz will launch a wagon version of the second-generation CLS sedan as a rival to the recently introduced BMW 5-series GT and the upcoming Audi A7. The new four-door--presaged by the German carmaker's 2008 Concept Fascination two-door shooting brake revealed at that year's Paris motor show--is among a throng of niche-market models under consideration by Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche. "We're seeking to improve our returns by better utilization of existing platforms," a high-ranking Mercedes source told AutoWeek.
Magna Electronics develops 'Touchskin' concept [w/video]
Tue, 22 May 2012Electronics firm Magna is working on a new technology it calls 'Touchskin concept' that has the potential to eliminate traditional switches and instruments inside vehicles. As part of its ‘Intelligent Surface Technology', the Touchskin concept is set to be an integral part of a system that allows the user to control the car via intuitive gestures – such as pinching, tapping and swiping – as we've become so familiar with when using smartphones. The potential design implications are easy to see with the large amount of space made available by removing the traditional instrument cluster and its wiring and the removal of wired-in switches and buttons.
