WE HAVE A GOOD LOWER UNIT WE JUST PULLED OFF A 1975 EVINRUDE 70HP THAT HAD BAD COMPRESSION, ABOUT 65 PSI PER CYLINDER. WE DID HAVE IT RUNNING AND WAS ABLE TO SHIFT THE LOWER UNIT SO WE KNOW IT WORKS. IT PUMPED WATER BUT ALWAYS RECOMMEND A NEW IMPELLER BEFORE INSTALLING IN THE BOAT. WE DRAINED THE OIL OUT WHICH WAS DARK OLDER OIL BUT FREE OF METAL AND WATER. WE USED A CAN OF BRAKE CLEAN TO FLUSH IT OUT THE BEST WE COULD CHECKING FOR ANY FINE METAL THAT WOULD COME OUT WITH THIS PROCEDURE BUT ALL WAS GOOD. SO IF YOU PULL THE DRAIN PLUG DONT BE ALARMED IF S COUPLE DROPS OF ODD KIND OF LIGHT BROWNISH CLEAR FLUID COMES OUT AS WE TRY TO DRY THEM OUT BUT SOMETIMES WE DONT GET IT ALL OUT AND YOU CAN SMELL IT AS WELL, IT IS CAR QUEST BRAKE CLEANER, WE USE THAT TO RINSE ALL OUR LOWER UNITS AS USUALLY EVAPORATES FAST WITH OUT RESIDUE. CANT FIND A GOOD INTERCHANGE ANYWHERE BUT I THINK IT FITS 1973-78 60 65 70 75 3 CYLINDER MOTORS AS 73 WAS THE FIRST YEAR FOR MECHANICAL SHIFT. 1979 IS FOR SURE DIFFERENT. THIS HAS 4 GOOD DRIVESHAFT SPLINES AND 13 SPLINE PROP SHAFT AS THEY ALL ARE. 20 INCH DRIVESHAFT AS WELL. WE CLEANED OFF SOME LOOSE PAINT AND PRIMED IT WITH RUSTOLEUM 2X GREY PRIMER, QUITE A TOUGH PAINT. PLEAAE ASK YOUR LOCAL MARINA IF NOT SURE ON INTERCHANGE AS WELL AS I HAVE FOUND A COUPLE DIFFERENT SITES WITH DIFFERENT ANSWERS.

Fri, 08 Mar 2013The new BMW offerings at Geneva are the debut of the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo and the European debut of the BMW i3 Coupe Concept. There’s nothing at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show from BMW that will set the column inches flowing, but BMW does have a couple of debuts in Switzerland to tickle interest – the 3 Series GT and the i3 Coupe Concept. The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo comes under the heading of ‘Why would you build that’ (although, to be fair, we thought the same about the 6 Series Gran Coupe until we reviewed it) when BMW already offers the 3 Series Touring and, if you want something bigger, the 5 Series.
