Toyota FT-86 to get Subaru 2.0 litre Boxer engine

Fri, 29 Apr 2011

The Scion FR-S Concept - the North American Toyota FT-86 It’s actually starting to look as if Toyota – and Subaru, for that matter – are really going to finally get their respective fingers out and deliver to the market the affordable sports cat they’ve been promising for the last two year. The original Toyota FT-86 surfaced in 2009 with a promise of affordability and fun and we all got quite excited, especially as it was a surprisingly brave move for an increasingly bland and corporate Toyota. Video: Chris Bangle delivers “Empowerment: Design without Designers” talk at Creative Mornings/London

Wed, 09 Nov 2011

Chris Bangle – the undisputed front man of car design – needs little introduction, so the prospect of the former BMW Design Director and now founder of Chris Bangle Associates giving a talk in our home town of London was too good to pass up. His presentation (which you can watch in full in the video to the left) touched on his time at BMW, but was more focused on the idea of empowering others to create: "design without you in the middle", as Bangle says. From the story of the co-creation of the staircase in his Italian studio to the idea of encouraging people to think about their culture when designing, his philosophies transcend disciplines.

Show Preview: Frankfurt motor show 2011

Tue, 23 Aug 2011

The biannual Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung, or the Frankfurt motor show, is again due to take place this September, swapping places with its sister show in Paris. One of the world's largest motor shows – certainly physically – the IAA is held at Frankfurt's Messe complex, and in recent years has been themed, with the last event in 2009 carrying the theme of ‘electrification', with virtually every manufacturer revealing a vehicle using the latest battery technology. Fittingly, the most notable unveil at that show was the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept, which was easily the most innovative and original car of 2009.
