Large Head Exploding Rivets

Product Details:

These 3/16" exploding rivets are offered in a 50pcs bag or box. They require a #11 drill (0.190"-0.200") diameter pilot hole and have an extremely long grip range of 0.030" to 3/8". Both the flange and mandrel are of aluminum construction. These rivets are Mill finish, which means the are plain aluminum in appearance. The head diameter is 1/2" minimum. The finished head height after installation is about 0.062"

The rivets go by many names such as EXPLODING, TRI-FOLD, or MULTI-GRIP. This rivets achieve this characteristic by splitting three ways on the back when installed . This allows for installation in blind holes such as tubing or on body panels where access to the back side is limited. The tri-fold action eliminates the requirement of a backing washer.

The rivet shown folded in the listing pictures is for demonstration purposes only. When properly installed the mandrel is broken off by the rivet tool.

Installation:

Installation can be done with most standard rivet tools. The use of a #11 drill is recommended as the pilot hole diameter. Sometimes a 3/16" drill bit can be used as the pilot hole since they tend to provide a slightly oversized hole in thin metals.

Safety:

As with any fastener installation, at a minimum always wear safety glasses/goggles, gloves, and closed toed shoes. You should also take any other precautions you feel are required with your work area.
