2010 Honda Accord Crosstour joins lineup

Part wagon, part crossover, the 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour was revealed on Tuesday ahead of its launch this fall. The Crosstour is based on the Accord sedan but gets a bolder grille and wedged-shaped C-pillars. The Crosstour is similar to the Acura ZDX concept shown at the New York auto show, but that was based on a different platform.

Volvo makes breakthrough in battery tech

Volvo has developed a new way of ‘storing’ energy for its future electric vehicles. The Swedish firm is exploring the concept of lightweight structural energy storage components made from carbonfibre, containing “nano structured batteries and super capacitors.” This technology is said to offer a lighter, more compact solution to the problem of energy storage, potentially removing the need for the heavy, bulky batteries used in current electric vehicles. Richard Ferlazzo has been appointed General Motors Australia design director. Taking up the position from 1 September, he will report directly to executive director international operations design Michael Simcoe and also GM Holden chairman and managing director Mike Devereux. Ferlazzo will be responsible for Advanced, Production and Global Contract programs and replaces Andrew Smith who left Holden this month to take up the position of executive director of global Cadillac and Buick design at GM's technical center in Warren, Michigan.
