Mon, 21 Jun 2010Chancellor George Osborne will make the emergency spending cuts on Tuesday 22 June By Tim Pollard Motoring Issues 21 June 2010 09:51 The new UK Government's emergency Budget tomorrow is likely to announce a raft of spending cuts and tax rises bound to affect motorists. The new Conservative-Liberal coalition government is taking the unusual step of holding an emergency summer Budget to reduce the national deficit, which stood at £156bn in 2009-10. The senior Cabinet members signed off the details of the Budget on Friday, but the details won't be confirmed until Tuesday 22 June 2010.Here's our preview of what to expect if you're a car owner:VAT riseMost pundits agree that the rate of value added tax will rise from today's 17.5%. If raised to 20% – the upper limit expected – it could raise an extra £11 billion a year for Government coffers.
Alfa Romeo 4C finally on sale in 2013?
Mon, 29 Oct 2012It seems the Alfa Romeo 4C may finally arrive in production guise at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, and on sale soon after. First seen at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011 – when we expected it to go on sale in 2012 – the 4C has been rolled out by Alfa Romeo a few times since – even complete with ‘teasers’ when all that had changed was the colour – to keep up interest in a car that holds much promise but didn’t seem to be heading anywhere. But now, according to Autocar, Alfa Romeo has confirmed that a production version of the Alfa 4C will arrive at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show before going on sale – at least in Europe – later in the year.
Audi A1 Quattro models ‘on the way’
Wed, 12 Jan 2011Audi has confirmed it is testing four-wheel drive Quattro versions of the A1 – indicating an imminent expansion of Audi’s supermini range. Although showcased as this one-off at a Quattro publicity event in Montreal, Canada, to celebrate 30 years of the all-corner drive system, Ingolstadt acknowledged at last autumn’s 2010 Paris motor show that Quattro versions of the A1 were in the pipeline. The production A1 Quattro will use the Haldex differential to split drive to both axles; it’s a similar technology to that found in A3 and TT Quattros, as opposed to the mechanical Torsen diff found in larger Quattro models.
