The DS2500  is currently the best hybrid track/street pad on the market.   It features the moderately high bite and solid fade resistance of a track pad, with the relatively low dust and noise levels of a street pad.  When used as a street pad, it can produce some squeal on certain vehicle platforms.  During aggressive driving the DS2500 is known for its flat torque curve, which means as temperatures go up, the response through the brake pedal remains consistent.  If you drive aggressively on the street, do some canyon runs, autoX, and maybe some light track duty on street tires, the DS2500 is tough to beat.

When used on fast, heavy cars on the track with race tires, pad wear rates tend to be higher than some of the full track pad compounds.  Under those conditions, we would recommend the Ferodo DS3000 or DS1.11.

The main characteristics of DS2500 are:

  • Consistent coefficient of friction (0,42) at all temperatures
  • Low noise
  • low dusting
  • Long pad life
  • Kind on discs
  • Race pedal fee

Hyundai Veloster Race Game in Times Square (video)

Thu, 29 Dec 2011

Hyundai Veloster Race Game in Times Square Hyundai has set up their LED screen in New York’s Times Square so passers-by can play a race game from an iPhone app. You’ve got to hand it to Hyundai – they certainly know how to raise awareness and hit the Zeitgeist. From the modern day equivalent of Lada and Yugo to a serious threat to car makers from Europe and Japan in less than a decade, it’s not just their cars that have come a long way – their PR has too.

What the Future Holds, Nobody Knows

Tue, 22 Dec 2009

It's a testament to the talent, charisma and relative celebrity of Ian Callum, Derek Jenkins and Franz von Holzhausen - heads of Jaguar, Mazda and Tesla design, respectively - that they managed to captivate a crowd of industry insiders at the tail end of the Los Angeles Auto Show's second press-preview day. This despite being given a nebulous topic to discuss with a moderator who knew little about the subject. Dan Lyons, a technology columnist at Newsweek, oversaw the panel discussion that was to focus on "Tomorrow's Cars...Practical Transportation or Groundbreaking Design?" He asked only one question on that topic before digressing into a more general discourse on the design strategies of Jaguar, Mazda and Tesla.

Careful young drivers penalised by hire companies

Mon, 15 Sep 2014

YOUNG DRIVERS with good driving records are being unfairly penalised by car hire firms. Rental companies are accused of imposing tough age limitations on those able to hire a car. In a study by the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), it found car hire companies often have stringent minimum age limits that take no account of a driver’s clean record.
