Composite Piston - Firestone offers a composite fiberglass reinforced plastic piston into its reversible sleeve Airide springs for air suspensions.
These pistons are manufactured from a high percentage, glass filled thermosetting resin using stateof-the-art SMC technology. Compared to conventional steel or aluminum pistons, they are lighter, more impact-resistant, and impervious to atmospheric corrosion, water, salt, and ice-melting chemicals, plus their smooth non-porous surface finish virtually eliminates the buildup of harmful dirt and grit. This allows the rubber bellows of the air spring to last much longer due to significantly reduced wear as the bellows flexes up and down the smooth piston. Ariel Atom 3.5R police car joins UK Constabulary

It's light, it's highly visible, it's relatively cheap to run on a daily basis and it's wickedly fast. Ariel Motors has teamed up with the Somerset Constabulary in the south of England to equip an Atom 3.5R, which features a 2.0-liter 350-hp engine from the Honda Civic Type R, with the necessary police gear.

The rear hump means a staggered silhouette, reflecting the rear seating which has been elevated to accommodate 'the most recent alternative energy technology.' Along with its unusual architecture, the sketch also shows a unique graphic break, with the dominant sweep and rear-biased mass reminding a little of the Mazda Senku concept. It will be interesting to see the model in Geneva.
