FJ40 Land Cruiser Instrument Cluster & Glove Box Door Set

These are a direct replacement for 9/'73 - 1/'79 40 Series FJ40s but will fit other years with some mods.

(But that’s up to you!)

Both pieces were completely disassembled, cleaned, and sandblasted down to the bare metal.

The outside of the instrument cluster housing is a painted brass color.  The back plate is painted metallic silver.  The interior of the main housing was repainted silver to help with night time illumination.  The face plate is powder coated in a metallic graphite color. Unfortunately these photos don’t do it justice.

While apart, all the gauges and speedometer were bench checked and tested OK.  I even rolled the odometer back to all zeros.

The glove box door comes with weather stripping and the limiter cable.  The 4-speed shifter instruction plate was too far gone to salvage so you’ll have to supply your own.  If your plate is a bit rough for this piece, SOR.com offers a Mylar decal (for about $2) to replace the aluminum plate.

Additionally, I reconditioned the handle and repainted “Pocket”.

I’m also auctioning a matching rear heater which has been powder coated the same metallic graphite color.  Additionally, in the very near future I’ll be offering a 2F valve cover that’s also this same metallic graphite color, so keep watching for that!  They make a great upgrade from the early stamped steel ones that flex and leak around the cork gaskets.

The five students – Bingyang Hu, Geng Li, Yanchao Wang, Kaiji Pu and Liang Chen – began this exciting, yet challenging journey in December 2009, when they entered the 2010 Car Design Awards China competition.

Concept Car of the Week: IAD Alien (1986)

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

Established in 1976 as a railway and aeronautical engineering company, Britain's IAD (International Automotive Design) rapidly oriented its expertise towards the automotive industry providing services from design to chassis engineering and even small-scale production. By the mid-80s two concepts had been presented – the TRX and the Arrival – that showed innovative thinking and tastefulness but a little innocuous styling. In an attempt to attract both attention and more clients, IAD CEO John Shute asked his team to design a futuristic concept that was both innovative and different.

Video: Darrell Waltrip laps Bathurst with V8 Supercar driver Jason Bright

Tue, 11 Oct 2011

One of the most entertaining things to come out of the Bathurst 1000 last weekend in Australia--besides Garth Tander and Nick Percat taking the checkered flag--was ex-NASCAR driver and commentator Darrel Waltrip going for a wild hot lap with V8 Supercar driver Jason Bright. After taking the first turn at speed in the 650-hp Holden Commodore, Waltrip yells, “Impossible!” The video gets even more entertaining around the Esses and the Dipper, two succeeding corners. The clip is full of repeatable one-liners from Waltrip including, “I lost my lunch, and I didn't even have lunch.” He calls the track on Mount Panorama a geological oddity.
