Gordon Murray Design T27 crash tested
Wed, 19 Jan 2011The original Smart car probably did more than its fair share to persuade us that small cars needn't necessarily be unsafe. But now Gordon Murray is on the same mission: to persuade us that his titchy T27 city car is as safe as houses too. Gordon Murray Design has just issued its first crash test results, showing a T27 electric car after a crash test at the UK's MIRA industry research lab. The crash test in question was the European-standard 40% offset deformable barrier front high-speed impact.
Volkswagen puts a price on the VW Polo BlueGT
Fri, 19 Oct 2012The Volkswagen Polo Blue GT – a warmed over Polo – will cost from £17,400 for the 1.4-litre 138bhp 6 spd manual. The Polo Blue GT gets the 1.4 TFSI engine with 138bhp so the little Polo can row along well enough, but it also get cylinder deactivation for when you’re not blatting from traffic light to traffic light to endow the Blue GT with official average economy of 60.1mpg (or 62.7mpg if you opt for the DSG ‘box). When you’re not worried about being parsimonious with your fuel the Polo GT skips along to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and handles well enough thanks to the Polo’s already decent setup and a 15mm lower suspension.
2013 Range Rover: First Video
Thu, 06 Sep 2012With the 2013 Range Rover getting its detail reveal today at the Royal Ballet School in London we have the first video. We’ll have more detail later today (we expect) on exactly what Land Rover has achieved with the new Range Rover, especially the effect the huge weight loss has had on the performance of the 4.4 litre V8 diesel, the 5.0 litre Supercharged petrol and the new 3.0 litre diesel. But ahead of those crucial details on the Range Rover we’ve got some D roll footage of the Range Rover which shows us far more than we’ve had so far.
