Toyota ditches Corolla badge

By Phil McNamara Motor Industry 30 July 2006 12:16 The Corolla brand is going the same way as Oldsmobile, Jif and Marathon – to the knacker's yard. It may be the most venerable nameplate in motoring history, but Toyota is ditching the Corolla badge in western Europe. The latest incarnation of the Japanese family car will be unveiled at the Paris motor show in September 2006, but it won't be wearing the Corolla logo.

Changan Raeton

Changan is predominantly active in the small car market, but the mid-sizes Raeton is aimed at entering the official and private vehicle markets, measuring in at a length of 4,920mm, a width of 1,825mm, while the car stands at 1,500mm tall riding on a wheelbase of 2,800mm. The development was based on the automaker's CD1-platform and was completed in its Turin-based European Design Centre, under the direction of Luciano D'Ambrosio and Chen Zheng. As early as the 2009 Shanghai auto show, Changan unveiled its CD101 concept car in attempt to explore the future design of the mid-size sedan.

Acura TL

Honda has released the very first image of the all-new redesigned TL, which will be sold under the company's luxury nameplate. Though only a single front quarter image has been made available, the profile of the new Acura TL is distinctively coupe-like, displaying an overall athletic stance. Apart from the familiar brushed aluminum Acura grille and single surface front bumper, new styling cues include sharp edged bodyside character surfaces anchoring down the design at the shoulder and the rocker panel, and the shoulder character lines' edge looping the front wheelarch surface and running down to the headlamp all the way to the front fascia.
