Concept Car of the Week: Italdesign Machimoto (1986)

Fri, 07 Feb 2014

The Machimoto might look and sound like a Japanese concept, but it was developed in Europe in the Turin-based Italdesign studio, and was based on a Volkswagen Golf GTI platform. The name actually derives from MACHIna (car in Italian) and MOTOciclo (motorcycle) as the perfect hybrid between the worlds of two- and four-wheelers. Unveiled on its home turf at the Turin motor show in 1986, it landed like a UFO, shocking both the public and the press.

2013 Audi A6 Allroad revealed Audi are busy showing off the new A4 Allroad at the Detroit Auto Show, but this morning they have revealed its big brother – the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad in Germany. Audi has only just launched the 2012 A4 Allroad – which is on show at the Detroit Auto Show as we write – but they’ve already got its big brother ready to show – the 2013 Audi A6 Allroad. Audi has taken the usual Allroad recipe for the A6 by taking the basics of the A6 Avant and making it rufty-tufy and ready for the urban jungle.

Kia Ray Concept at Chicago Motor Show

Thu, 21 Jan 2010

Kia wil preview the Kia Ray Concept plug-in hybrid at the Chicago Motor Show next month Yes, the Detroit Motor Show is only just about done, but waiting in the wings is the rather less fancy Chicago Motor Show (although they probably won’t thank us for describing it as such). But despite Chicago being a lower key affair than Detroit they will still get their share of new stuff. Well, not necessarily new (we reported that North America gets the BMW Alpina B7 which will debut at Chicago) but certainly new to the US.
