Maybach reaches end of the line
Fri, 25 Nov 2011Daimler AG is set to announce the closure of its Maybach ultra luxury brand this weekend, according to reports. Following a concept car preview at the 1997 Tokyo motor show, Maybach was resurrected in 2002 after Daimler AG failed to purchase either Rolls-Royce or Bentley from then owners, Vickers.

The Huracan will compete for bedroom wall real estate – and for £175k exotica buyers – with rivals like the Ferrari 458 Italia, McLaren 12C, Porsche 911 Turbo S and the new Honda NSX hybrid.

Ford is simply trying (increasingly desperately) to off-load Volvo, but GM, which is in a much more precarious position than Ford, has now abandoned its Swedish child in a desperate attempt to appease Congress and survive.
