When I got the keys to our long-term 2011 Mazda 5 last week, they came with a surprise--this aluminum-and-brass keychain in the shape of a rotary-engine housing, complete with moving rotor. The rotor doesn't just rattle around or spin in a circle. Thanks to a thumbwheel on the back of the housing, coupled with a timing gear and offset crank journal, the thing actually moves in an approximation of epitrochoidal motion just like a real Wankel.

The Mazda Kiyora is the latest Nagare ‘flow’ concept, and previews an all-new Mazda city car that could be in production as early as 2010 if public reaction is positive enough. The Kiyora will be revealed at the Paris motor show and continues Mazda’s latest vision of ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom’. Clean and pure, apparently.

Running from January 17th-27th, the Brussels Motorshow is probably the first European motorshow of the year. Comparisons with Detroit are perhaps unfair but almost inevitable. There was certainly plenty of glamour with Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche and Lamborghini amongst the exotic participants.
