The 2010 Vauxhall Meriva testing at the Nurburgring This Meriva is an all new design and follows the family theme set by the new Astra and Insignia. But we think it’s a bit of a ringer for the new Kia Venga we saw at Frankfurt last week. This piece of organic-looking, handcrafted aluminium is called the ‘Frankfurt Flyer’ – a bespoke creation by American engineer Chris Runge. It’s rather special too, as the original Flyer racing car is the forebear to one of the most famous Porsche models ever, the 550 Spyder. This is one man’s painstaking recreation of one of the finest post-war sports cars to ever see the light of day, and it could be yours for $60,000 – around £36,500.

Call for ban on in-car hands-free phones

Road safety charity Brake is calling for a blanket ban on in-car hands-free phone systems. Using a hand-held phone while driving is already illegal in the UK, so a proposal to prohibit even hands-free kits would completely eradicate calling from behind the wheel.
