The British Steam Car Challenge team has set a new land speed record for a steam car at 148.308mph All of which tends to suggest – admirable though the achievement is – that steam technology has not moved on much in 100 years. Back in November we reported that Messrs Clarkson, Hammond and May were filming for Top Gear in Italy with the Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren MP4-12C and Noble M600, and tonight that road trip features in the first episode of series 18.
