Toyota GT86 Convertible (the Toyota FT-86 Concept) at Tokyo with roof up
Fri, 15 Nov 2013The Toyota FT-86 Open Concept (pictured) gets a roof and new paint job for Tokyo 2013 The Toyota FT-86 Open Concept (effectively a roadster version of the GT86) made an appearance earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, and now Toyota are lining up a new version of the FT-86 for their home show in Tokyo. The FT-86 Open may be billed as a concept, but it’s clear Toyota are keen to see the GT86 Roadster go in to production, and the latest FT-86 for Tokyo demonstrates that with a new paint job and the first views of the fabric roof in place. Complementing the FT-86′s new red paint job it gets door handles, windscreen surround and door mirrors in contrasting grey and the interior gets a set of red carpets.
Will this Datsun crossover concept be a new Nissan CUV?
Thu, 23 Jan 2014We've heard a lot about Datsun in the past few months. The defunct-but-returning brand was part of the inspiration for the Nissan IDx concepts seen at the Detroit auto show, but Nissan has been talking about selling cars under the Datsun brand in developing markets like India, Russia and Indonesia since last July. The company released a concept sketch on Wednesday of a small people carrier, set to debut at the Delhi Auto Expo in February.
Tesla Model S outselling Chevrolet Volt & Nissan LEAF
Sat, 27 Apr 2013Tesla never managed to make any money out of their electric Lotus – the Tesla Roadster – but it does look like they’re on to a winner with their electric executive saloon, the Tesla Model S. Despite moans that the headline-grabbing sub-$50k Model S was never a reality – and a starting point of $70k – the Model S looks set to outsell the two most successful ‘alternatively fuelled’ cars – the electric Nissan LEAF and the range extender Chevrolet Volt – in the first quarter of 2013. Sales of the electric Nissan LEAF, which costs from $29k in the US, in the first quarter of 2013 were 3,965 units and the Chevrolet Volt, which costs from $40k, sold 4,421 units.
