FAQ: Will this cause problems with the cap sealing?

Absolutely not!  The upper portion of the gas cap serves as a handle to perform the necessary turning and clicking. The lower portion is the "business end" that fits down into the filler neck and makes the seal.  Click-type gas caps were designed as a safety measure to insure that your gas tank remains sealed even if the top of the cap is completely broken away.
