And many new car buyers will forsake the more premium marques in order to save a few bob, and instead look at capable but less appealing makers. Which probably goes some way to explaining the new VW Golf Twist which takes over as the entry-level Golf from the Golf S.

2013 Fiat Panda 4×4 revealed ahead of Paris 2012

Fiat has revealed the 2013 version of the Panda 4×4 ahead of a public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. The Fiat Panda might not be as cool as the Fiat 500 (oh, alright, it’s not cool at all), but it is a much better car than you might expect. Sadly, Fiat no longer build the Panda 100HP – as quick a way round urban traffic as you’ll ever find – but they are continuing with the Panda 4×4 and have just revealed a new version.

2013 Dacia Duster costs from £8995

Renault has revealed that the Dacia Duster compact SUV will cost from £8,995 in the UK for the 2WD version.  Renault threatened that the Dacia brand’s arrival in the UK – and in particular the Dacia Duster SUV – would offer ”Shockingly Affordable Prices’. And they’re not wrong. We thought the Dacia SUV would dip under £10k, but Renault has priced the new Duster in its basic form - admittedly with FWD – at just £8,995.
