Mon, 27 Jan 2014This piece of organic-looking, handcrafted aluminium is called the ‘Frankfurt Flyer’ – a bespoke creation by American engineer Chris Runge. It’s rather special too, as the original Flyer racing car is the forebear to one of the most famous Porsche models ever, the 550 Spyder. This is one man’s painstaking recreation of one of the finest post-war sports cars to ever see the light of day, and it could be yours for $60,000 – around £36,500.
Alfa Romeo 8C based Disco Volante by Touring makes limited production
Mon, 16 Sep 2013The Alfa Romeo Disco Volante (pictured) is going in to limited production The Alfa Romeo 8C is a beautiful – if flawed – supercar from Alfa, made even more individual by by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera with their Alfa Disco Volante Concept in 2012. That Concept – which arrived at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012 – has now been updated for 2013 and is being put in to limited production for those with deep pockets to indulge in an Alfa even more rare than the 8C itself. The Disco Volante pays homage to the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante – based on the Alfa 1900 – and is built from aluminium and carbon fibre to keep weight in check, although under the skin remains pretty much Alfa 8C.
Maserati banks on Chrysler to boost global sales
Wed, 27 Jul 2011Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne has bold plans for the automaker's Maserati luxury sports car unit: to boost annual sales almost tenfold to 50,000 units from 5,675 last year. Three new models are key to this midterm goal and all are based on systems and components from Chrysler Group. Maserati will introduce two new sedans to replace its Quattroporte flagship model using technology from Chrysler's large sedans such as the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Avenger.
