GM 4L60-E/4L65-E TRANSMISSION, UPDATE SERVICE MANUAL, GREEN COVER, (74400EA)

This publication is produced by ATSG, Automatic Transmission Service Group.  This booklet contains 120 pages of information and was updated in, January, 2003.

General Motors introduced the 4L60-E transmission in 1993.  Since that time there have been many engineering changes in this transmission.  These changes were made to improve durability and reliability of the 4L60-E transmissions.  These changes have affected nearly every part used in the THM 4L60-E.  This "Update Handbook" will explain each change, the parts affected by the change, and any parts interchangeability concerns created by the changes.

Beginning at the start of production for model year 2001, General Motors introduced a new transmission designated THM 4L65-E with many engineering changes.  Currently this unit is found in all 2001 Cadillac Esclade and any vehicle with 6.0L engine or larger, that was previously equipped with the 4L60-E transmission. The THM 4L65-E is also covered in this booklet.

This is not a step by step rebuilding manual, this update book is designed to go along with the rebuilding manuals and explains the changes in the parts and other engineering changes.
