:

for auction a limited slip posi carrier from a 1989 Camaro.  it has a 3.08 (40:13) gear. the gear looks ok. the carrier has the head of one of the bolts broken off. I have seen this before. my sons Camaro has one of the same bolts with the head of the bolt off. it has been like that for years and it is still working properly and nothing else has backed off or broken. the other issue with this posi is the pinion bearing failed and caused the pinion to rub the carrier. this is a cosmetic issue and should have no affect on the operation of the unit. the pinion gear has evidence of this rubbing but I found no damage on the pinion teeth. when this happened both the pinion and carrier bearings were replaced. the fluid was like new when I pulled this unit. I have also not cleaned this unit. it looked this clean when I took it out. I  have included the shims from this housing also.

this unit is made for 26 spline axles. the 7.5 and 7 5/8 gears, carriers will interchange. this unit will fit the 1989 and older Camaro, Firebird, Cutlass, Monte Carlo, S10, Regal with a 7.5 10 bolt. the infomation below is from jegs. they list this unit to fit the 1988 and older. i believe it should be 1989 and older. the later models had 28 spline axles.  this unit will fit several other vehicles. see the list below.

this carrier is for the 7.5 7.5/8 10 bolt carrier. the 7.5 carrier has two small points  on each side of the bottom of the carrier. the larger 10 bolt is a 8.5. it has a square on the bottom of each side of the housing. this unit will not work in a 8.5 housing

this 7 5/8 carrier will NOT work with 3.23 and lower gears (3.23, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10). it WILL work with a 2.56, 2.73, 3.08

Bristol Cars sold to China. Possibly.

Fri, 01 Apr 2011

Bristol Cars - is it a Chinese Takeaway Earlier this month we reported the sad demise of the quirky and eccentric supercar maker that is Bristol cars, forced in to administration through a shortage of equally eccentric millionaires to buy their creations from another time. The good news is that they still look like a viable entity if they’re properly marketed, so we didn’t expect it to be too long before a buyer popped up and grabbed the Bristol Cars name, its Kensington showrooms and the handful of staff left. So we weren’t surprised to get an email this morning from China telling us the press there are reporting that the Xinjiang No1 Tractor Company – a State-owned maker of tractors (you’d never have guessed) – had snapped up Bristol Cars from the administrators.

CAR tech: how to eliminate turbo lag

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

CAR has tested a new breed of experimental super-diesel that literally leaves current technology standing and may banish turbo lag forever. We drove an Audi A6 3.0-litre V6 prototype fitted with an electric bi-turbo system which delivers a massive dose of torque from idle. The effect is radical, firing the saloon off the line like an R8 when the driver floors the throttle.

Concept Car of the Week: Heuliez H4 (1972)

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

With the H4, Heuliez set out into unexplored territories by offering a concept tailored to the needs of taxi drivers. If today's minivans are an integral part of our daily lives, this Peugeot 204-based H4 should be placed back in its original context in the early ‘70s, when this monovolume architecture still belonged to science fiction. Its dimensions are comparable to a Renault Modus although it's shortened by 140mm.
