Volvo makes breakthrough in battery tech

Volvo has developed a new way of ‘storing’ energy for its future electric vehicles. The Swedish firm is exploring the concept of lightweight structural energy storage components made from carbonfibre, containing “nano structured batteries and super capacitors.” This technology is said to offer a lighter, more compact solution to the problem of energy storage, potentially removing the need for the heavy, bulky batteries used in current electric vehicles. Renault DCross concept

Renault has unveiled its new DCross concept at the Sao Paolo motor show. This C-segment SUV concept is based on the Dacia Duster and is aimed at the Brazilian market, having been designed at Renault Brazil's design studio in Sao Paolo. As with the other Brazil-focused concepts revealed at this year's show, the DCross features exaggerated wheel arches, a raised ride height and heavy underbody protection.
