THIS IS A MODIFIED, AFTERMARKET UPGRADED DESIGN INPUT SHAFT. ADDITIONAL AFTERMARKET UPGRADES TO THE TRANSMISSION AND TORQUE CONVERTER MUST BE USED WITH THIS SHAFT. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN TRANSMISSION FAILURE!!!!
This modified drum is going back to the original powerglide set up. This input shaft does not have the lube passages drilled into it. That is what makes this shaft stronger than the OE design. It is solid without the drilled holes. Because the lube holes are not there, the bushing/input shaft support set up must be modified to accommodate this, otherwise your lube flow will be obstructed causing failure.
There are two things you need to do to use this item:
1. Do not use a stock OE design TH400 converter. You need to order what they call a "bushed converter." All that is, is a modified TH400 converter with a bushing installed in the cover like the old powerglide converters. Tell your converter supplier what you are doing and they should be able to get you the correct converter.
2. Knock out the end bushing inside your pump stator. You no longer need this because you are using a converter with the bushing inside it instead. The bushing inside the converter provides support for the input shaft.
Basically this is a retro powerglide style set up.
