GM recalls 2013 Cadillac SRX, Buick LaCrosse for software fix
Wed, 20 Mar 2013General Motors is recalling about 26,500 copies of the 2013 Buick LaCrosse sedan and Cadillac SRX crossover for a software problem that could cause the automatic transmission to shift out of manual mode. The affected vehicles are equipped with the Driver Shift Control feature, which allows the driver to shift the automatic transmission similar to a manual transmission. GM said in a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the software problem may cause the transmission to shift unexpectedly from manual mode back to the automatic transmission, which removes any transmission-related engine braking.
Rearview cameras may become mandatory
Fri, 02 Mar 2012Rearview cameras may become a mandatory feature in all passenger cars by 2014 if US Congress approves a rule submitted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Auto safety regulators have taken the decision to submit a final rule to Congress after figures emerged from non-profit group KidsandCars.org that stated that two children die and about 50 are injured every week when someone accidentally backs over them in a vehicle. In one quite shocking public-service announcement KidsAndCars.org showed that 62 children could fit behind a large SUV without being visible to the driver in any of the mirrors.
GM unveils electric Cadillac Converj concept at the Detroit auto show
Sun, 11 Jan 2009General Motors pulled perhaps a surprise at the Detroit Auto Show Sunday morning, unveiling an eye-catching two-door Cadillac concept powered by a "future evolution" of the Chevrolet Volt's electric powertrain. Called the Converj, the Cadillac will have a range of 40 miles on electricity, with a potential total range of 700 miles after a generator kicks in. GM says the powertrain, formerly known as E-Flex, is now called Voltec, and could be used in a variety of applications.
