Petrol cars twice as likely to fail MOT on emissions

The latest MOT test data shows that 26.2% of all cars tested fail on excess exhaust emissions – and surprisingly petrol cars fail more than twice as often as diesels in this part of the annual roadworthiness test. According to the official Vehicle Operator and Standard Agency (VOSA) figures, which cover all of 2010 and the first nine months of 2011, 9.7% of petrol cars failed to meet MOT emissions standards compared to just 3.9% of diesels. Volkswagen has plans for yet another Beetle

The Volkswagen Beetle is on its way back, and this time around, it will be focused more on driving dynamics than on efforts to resurrect the past. Expected to appear in concept form at the Los Angeles auto show late this year, the second-generation version of the modern-day Beetle goes on sale in the United States in May 2011. A convertible with a fabric top will follow about a year later.

The Lamborghini LP560 has been with us for a few months now, so bang on cue Lamborghini has announced the convertible version – The Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder (what a mouthful – I think we’ll just stick with ‘LP560′). The Spyder version of the original Gallardo was always one of our favourites. It gave away so little to the hard-top version it really made sense to have the convertible – a rare thing with a performance car.
