Vauxhall Astra (2009): first interior photos

Thu, 18 Jun 2009

By Ben Pulman First Official Pictures 18 June 2009 15:15 Vauxhall has released the first interior pictures of the new sixth-generation Astra, showing that the inside of the five-door hatch has been heavily influenced by the bigger Insignia's. The architecture broadly follows that of the Insignia, with (at least in top-spec models) a high-set sat-nav system, sitting above the audio and air-con controls and flanked by the central air vents. The air vents themselves are more angular than the items you'll find in the Insignia, and the dash itself also appears more upright.

Jeremy Clarkson with the Zenvo ST1 on tonight’s Top Gear Top gear returns tonight for episode three, and we have a road trip by our intrepid trio as they take three small hatchbacks for an adventure on the Crimean Peninsula. Jeremy Clarkson takes the new VW up! city car, Richard Hammond has the Ford Fiesta and James May the Dacia Sander (what else could he have taken?) as the boys traverse one of the biggest countries in Europe (and encounter many lorries, it seems).

But I tend to judge the shows by the afterglow--how much you remember a day or two after the event. I tend to remember a lot after every Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, and that is mostly because the founder, Bill Warner, uses his annual North Florida show to do exactly what you and I would do if we ran a big show--invite our heroes to come talk and invite the cars we'd like to look at ourselves.
