This is a Gyrosyn Compass Master Indicator Type C-2A made by Sperry part number 653894-6B. The Master Indicator was part of a 5 module system combining the functions of a directional indicator and a magnetic compass, introduced in the late 1940's. See the diagram of the system with an explation of its function in the photo gallery, including a diagram of this specific indicator. An illustration of its position on an instrument panel is in the photos - from the US Air Forces C-119 Flying Boxcar flight manual dated 1950. Measures 3.25in diameter and ~8in deep. Tiremakers offer new tread designs and compounds for winter
Wed, 17 Nov 2010When preparing your vehicle for winter, most people think about getting the battery tested, installing new wiper blades and having plenty of windshield-washer fluid on hand. VW Touareg BlueMotion hits the UK
Fri, 12 Jun 2009Volkswagen has announced the VW Touareg BlueMotion for the UK Offering improved economy and lower emissions, the Touareg BlueMotion manages to drop in to a lower Co2 band by emitting 219g/km (a reduction from 244g/km on the V6 TDi) and it delivers 34mpg as opposed to 30.4mpg on the V7 TDi. These improvements have been achieved by the usual ECU tweaking, low rolling resistance tyres, some aerodynamic tweaks and a lower ride height (exactly the same sort of stuff that Ford has done on the EConetic range). And the penalty for the lower emissions and better economy is very slight, with the Touareg BlueMotion still managing the 0-60mph in 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 126mph.
