Car April Fools Stuff – to Infiniti & Beyond

Fri, 02 Apr 2010

BMW release PRAT roundels for the UK General Election There were so many April Fools stories running around yesterday from car makers we really didn’t want to spend the day regurgitating press releases designed to demonstrate car makers’ normally well-hidden sense of humour. But some were well-conceived so we thought we should bring you a few, just so you know what went on. BMW in the UK decided to be topical and issued a press release telling is they were offering their Political Roundel Attachment Tag, which would offer the BMW Roundel in colours to suit owners’ political persuasion in the run-up to the General Election.

Video: Jaguar's Julian Thomson on the importance of design values

Tue, 30 Oct 2012

Jaguar's Head of Advanced Design, Julian Thomson, appeared at this month's PSFK Conference in London giving a talk on design values. Thomson's talk, ‘Concepting Dreams, Making Reality Happen', dealt with questions of creating a design story as well as how Jaguar uses the value of its heritage while keeping things original and new. Thomson – the man behind the 2010 C-X75 and the recently revealed F-Type – said, "You can't get a good design story if you don't look at your heritage, where you came from, where your values came from." He went on to discuss the ‘sad years of Jaguar', from around 1968 to 2004 where Jaguar was too timid to develop and "essentially made the same-looking car." He put this down to a reluctance on Jaguar's part to move too far away from its successful models and, quite interestingly, because "not only did we start doing market research, we started asking Americans what they wanted." VW boss Bernhard quits

Fri, 12 Jan 2007

By Tim Pollard Motor Industry 12 January 2007 09:57 Volkswagen boss Wolfgang Bernhard has quit the company as part of a shake-up at Europe's biggest car maker. The news comes as little surprise after months of uncertainty and change at the top of VW. Bernhard built a reputation as an abrasive operator in his short stint as CEO of the Wolfsburg company and had numerous confrontations with unions as he pushed through more modern working practices.
