Harley-davidson Hd 45 Knucklehead Tank Badge Right Side Genuine Original Off '41 on 2040-parts.com
Baden, Pennsylvania, US
Harley-Davidson Tank Badge, right side only, original from 1941 WL, selling for my friend; he took it off his HD back in the day. I learned according to harleydavidsonmuseum.com that it fits from 1940 to 1950. Some folks seem to say it fits from 40-46 45ci knucklehead. I am not a HD person so I don't know. This is an original HD part not an aftermarket part as I understand since it was removed in the 1950s or thereabouts from an original machine. He is not an ebay computer person so I'm selling a bunch of his old motorcycle parts. This was with a bunch of BSA parts in a cardboard box in his basement and was grimy as all get out. I washed it off in kerosene and found that the brown spots on the face can be removed with my fingernail. Some caked gunk remains in the edges of the backside but that too can be removed with fingernail or toothpick. Its worst feature is the two worn spots on the front edge that are probably something that was rubbing the tank. They are not scratched and are smooth so it doesn't look like road rash to me; I forget if he said this came off a Servicar trike. The rubbed spots are brass colored, shiny smooth, and the one nearest the "N" started to wear through the thickness of the metal - I can just see a tiny sliver of daylight at its edge where it meets the side. The backside of each of the two chevrons have tiny capital G in a circle. My camera can't focus that close and small. The HD lettering is red and the chevrons are black. The chrome is pretty nice but has some light scratches throughout that can be seen if the light is reflected right. The piece looks like it should be flat on its face but is dished in a bit. There is a small hole on the back end and a hook shape on the front for attachment which appear to be in good condition. I'd be happy to answer questions or provide more pics if you want more info. It is just a bit shy of 7" long, is 3.15" high, and about 1/4" thick and is stamped sheet metal. The backside looks like it might be stainless steel. He doesn't have the left side badge and has an original HD Champion 3 spark plug and matching wrench to sell. All the rest of his stuff I'll be selling is vintage BSA or BMW parts. I can ship it out of USA but please advise me in advance and I'll determine the shipping cost to wherever; flat rate of $5.80 applies only to continental USA.
