Harley Evo Fl Front Brake Rotor Cover, Speedo Drive Side, Chrome With Louvres on 2040-parts.com
Renton, Washington, US
The Harley style of bagger décor, which sets the standard for the whole motorcycle industry, is based on chrome, lots of chrome. And covers, too, lots of chrome covers, which neatly combines both features. There’s a practical reason for a cover like this, too. It protects the spinning rotor and wheel hub from flying debris, and a certain amount of rain water too. That’s almost worth the extra unsprung weight. If that makes sense to you, here’s what you need to know to decide it will work on your bike. Check out the pictures and description carefully to be sure. This cover is for the left side of the front wheel on an EVO era Harley Davidson FLH model that used a front wheel speedometer cable, that fed through the notch below the cutout for the brake caliper, and was stopped by the single piston brake caliper that was used from about 1979 through 1999, when the Twin Cams brought the new style brakes. It should fit any of the models made with the 16” front wheel, I would think. The cover is made from 18 gage steel sheet formed in one piece and chrome plated. It is 12 3/8" diameter. The center hole is .780” diameter for your ¾” axle and sits in a conical projection that is offset 1” from the lip on the inside edge. The 1 ¾” diameter flat around the hole clamps behind the spacer on that side against the fork leg and keeps everything in place, like a giant flat washer. There’s a big 3 ½” by 4” notch in this cover to clear the caliper, with radiused corners and a small tab along the lower edge that ties in with the caliper body somehow. It starts about 1 ½” from the center hole, and, from the size of it, is only going to work on those single piston calipers. The speedo cable notch is about 2 ½” long by 7/8” wide, mostly. There’s another smaller notch on the top side, angled to the back on the side of the cone that is ¾” wide by 1” long, not sure what that is for. Above the center hole in front are three louvered holes that allow cooling air in to the rotor and look cool besides. They are ½” wide by 2 ½” long, with the leading edge open for appearance. And appearance is what this part is all about. With the exception of plenty of microscopic scratches on the chrome from the indignities of storage in a tub, and a smudge here and there, this part is in real nice condition. There’s lots of grunge on the inside where the disc pad powder lands, but the chrome is clean and solid throughout with no rust, cracks, deformation or damage that would raise any doubt that this part can go on your bike and look good for a long time. Think of it as a time saver, if you have the matching part on the other side. You may never have to polish a spoke again… thanks for looking. :-{)}
