.   ...You are bidding on what looks like a nice REPARABLE 1936 EL KNUCKLEHEAD Transmission Kicker Cover.  It does need a repair inside so look close and read carefully please!!!. .... If I remember correctly this is the second version 36EL Kicker Cover as the very very early ones had a machined recess for the breather. ....This later 36 version has the breather on a boss that is now part of the revised casting.   ...There are no other cracks or repairs, or welds on the OUTSIDE of the cover visible to the naked eye. ......The recess for the cork around the Kicker Arm hole is shown in the photos as well as 2 incorrect later version bushings that were installed in this cover that I just removed and I plan on TOSSING THEM as they are cracked! . ....They popped out very easily and I tried a new one piece bushing and both ends look and feel pretty close to the correct diameter.  ...It should be easy to install one (YOU will have to buy) after you repair the cracks I will mention later on the backside. .   The other repair needed is the FILLER HOLE as the threads are pretty much GONE. ....If I try a standard thread plug in the hole it drops inside and does not catch one threads! So that holw will need welding, machining and correct threads installed.   ...The other thing I removed from this cover is the post for the spring as it was bent slightly but bad enough that it will need replacing. Threads in that hole are OK!   (I tossed that bent post so nobody would be tempted to wack it with a hammer to straighten it and break the casting!) .... ...As far as the inside of the Cover goes it does have the common cracks around the kicker arm hole. ....This one has them at the 9, 12 and 3 o'clock positions as shown in the photos. Nobody welded or ground anything out and that kicker arm hole is smooth inside. ....That is a lot better than getting one someone who did not know what they were doing welded the hell out of it and distorted everything. .....Same thing with the filler plug! .   ..... The outside of the Cover is as I found it and I did not bead or sand blast it.    ....It does have some flaws but it looks like it was never welded, repaired or broke anywhere and the 33-352 is still readable. ...........A LOT OF PEOPLE have asked for a 36 Kicker Cover so here it goes NO RESERVE and NO Buy It Now to the highest bidder!!!!! .......SO;   ....LQQK close and be sure what I think it is and know you can use it as there are no returns and all sales are final please. ....PLEASE note; ...I WILL be listing a few other leftover 36 parts between now and Christmas so keep looking! . ............ Shipped USA via UPS Ground Insured or Priority Mail and Priority Mail International for all others. ...NO RETURNS so please be 100% sure that this is the item you need for your application before bidding PLEASE !

Forgot to mention that the Cover was painted BLACK on the outside a long time ago.  I removed that paint with some paint stripper a while back.  Any black spots you see now are the remains of that black paint that did not come off. THANKS!

(Gas) Tax Day: How much are you paying?

Mon, 18 Apr 2011

Today is April 18, also known as Tax Day in the United States. Since we're car enthusiasts and not accountants, we decided to ignore the half-finished 1040 on the kitchen table and take a look at a tax that means a lot more to us--the gas tax. The gas tax is the portion of every gallon that pays for road maintenance and other transportation projects.
